Instinct Over Influence

// July 14th, 2010 // No Comments » // Misc

Samsara’s ‘Instinct Over Influence’ hits the shelves Friday 9th of July and the band will be on the road to support it along with Newcastle’s Dropsaw.

Formed in 2005 by members of Within Blood, Shotpointblank and Mindsnare, Melbourne quintet Samsara wasted little time in establishing themselves as one of the hardest hitting outfits in Australia’s thriving hardcore scene.

Recorded by Kurt Ballou of Converge at Melbourne’s Three Phase Studios, Samsara’s debut full-length ‘The Emptiness’ (Trial And Error, 2007) was a vicious slab of metallic hardcore that saw the band land supports with everyone from Terror and Madball through to Hatebreed.

After the loss of imposing front man Luke Bainbridge and drummer Tim Shearman in 2009, one could be forgiven for thinking that Samsara’s time in the spotlight was over, however the introduction of Face Eater’s Nick Vine (vocals) and Mat Woodhouse (drums) breathed new life into the (then) fledgling group. Fast forward twelve-months and Samsara have delivered their heaviest and most musically accomplished effort yet, Instinct Over Influence.

Once again enlisting Ballou to helm the sessions, Instinct Over Influence picks up where their debut left off, with Vine’s multi-dimensional performance behind the mic giving Samsara yet another weapon in their already-impressive musical arsenal. From the frenzied guitar solos of “No Peace” through to the visceral riffing of “Skin And Bone”, Samsara are the proud owners of one of the year’s most crushing heavy releases.

Dropsaw & Samara play Byron YAC on Sunday August 1st with Ghost Town and Face Hate as support.

Samsara & Dropsaw Tour

// June 10th, 2010 // No Comments » // Tours

To celebrate the release of their tough as nails sophomore record, Melbourne hardcore crew Samsara are teaming up with Novocastrian five-piece Dropsaw this winter to bring you the Instinct Over Influence/Hard Justice tour. Engineered and mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Blacklisted, The Hope Conspiracy) and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Studios in New York, Instinct Over Influence is the first Samsara release to showcase the band’s latest additions, vocalist Nick Vine and drummer Mathew Woodhouse. Featuring twelve of the veteran outfit’s most ferocious tracks yet, Instinct Over Influence is a must have for hardcore fans.

No stranger to the road, Dropsaw joined Evergreen Terrace and Casey Jones on their recent Australian trek in support of their latest full-length, Hard Justice. Recorded by As I Lay Dying front man Tim Lambesis at his studio in San Diego, California, the album (Dropsaw’s third) is sure to please both long-time fans and those that are new to the band.

Samsara – Instinct Over Influence is available in stores July 9th through Trial And Error Records.

Dropsaw – Hard Justice is in stores now through Trial And Error Records.

Sunday August 1st – YAC, Byron Bay (AA)
